Lori Rackl

Chicago-born Lori Rackl has worked at all three of the area’s daily newspapers, starting in the early ’90s at the Daily Herald, where she won several national awards for health reporting. During her 11 years at the Sun-Times, the University of Illinois alum wrote a weekly travel feature and edited the Sunday travel section before becoming the paper’s TV critic.

The Tribune hired her in 2016 as travel editor, a post that included producing Illinois’ Bicentennial Bucket List, a premium product highlighting 200 things to do, see, eat and drink in honor of the state’s 200th birthday.

Lori has an insatiable case of wanderlust that’s taken her to more than 70 countries. She especially enjoys writing about adventure travel —cycling, hiking, kayaking, etc. As a freelancer, she’s contributed to Lonely Planet and Moon Metro guidebooks, and her travel stories have run in the Boston Globe, Miami Herald and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, to name a few.

When Lori isn’t traveling (or writing about it), she’s busy exploring her new home city of Houston, where she lives with her husband, former Sun-Times editor-in-chief Chris Fusco.
