Leslie Munger

Deputy Governor

Leslie Munger was appointed Deputy Governor of Illinois in February 0f 2017. A senior advisor to the Governor, Leslie drives strategy, creates policies that benefit businesses and human services, and serves as a liaison to the community. She oversees the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and partners with Intersect Illinois to drive economic development throughout the state.

Munger works closely with the Illinois Bicentennial Commission to execute a statewide, yearlong celebration in honor of the state’s 200th birthday in collaboration with local governments and community groups.

Prior to her role as Deputy Governor, Leslie served as Illinois State Comptroller. Munger is a native Illinoisan, earning her bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois and her master’s degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

She is a former brand management executive with Helene Curtis/Unilever where she led the $800 million U.S. Hair Care business. Early in her career, Munger also worked at Procter & Gamble and at McKinsey and Company, Inc.

A longtime resident of Lincolnshire, she has been an active community volunteer and leader for the Riverside Foundation, a not-for-profit organization serving developmentally disabled adults. She was named their Volunteer of the Year in 2013 and received the Distinguished Service Award in 2016.

Munger and her husband, John, live in Lincolnshire and have two sons, Tom and Andy.
