Kit Bernardi (KitTravels.com) is an award-winning travel journalist, photographer and marketer. She has explored more than 55 countries on six continents. During 25 years as a freelance writer and photographer, Kit’s articles have been published in USA TODAY, U.S. News & World Report, AAA Publications, South China Morning Post, Delta Sky Magazine, Midwest Living Magazine, Travel Illinois Magazine, HomeExchange.com, FamilyTravelForum.com, TakingtheKids.com, CruiseCritic.com and many other media outlets. Kit is a USA TODAY 10Best Illinois expert.

Kit was named the 2017 TravMedia Journalist of the Year. Her work and website KitTravels.com have received awards from the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) and Midwest Travel Writers Association (MTWA). She was a contributing editor for Meredith Corporation’s Midwest Living Magazine when the regional publication received multiple SATW Lowell Thomas Awards. Kit edited-authored the first Not for Tourists Guide to Chicago. She served on SATW’s Board of Directors and has led the Society’s Geography Education Committee for 12 years.

Kit’s travel consulting company provides strategic communications services and integrated travel marketing consultation. She speaks at travel industry and marketing conferences, including the 2017 New York Times Travel Show and several Midwest states governors’ tourism conferences. Kit teaches writing at Chicago area universities. She is a member of SATW Editors Council.

Earlier in her career Kit was a senior marketing executive at Frankel & Company leading the United Airlines, Target Stores and ARCO Chemical Company accounts. She was public relations director for Hilton Chicago and Hilton Hotels Corporation’s Midwest Region. She also worked as a television reporter, producer and radio broadcaster in Chicago, Illinois and South Bend, Indiana.
